A major tomato recall has been escalated to the Food and Drug Administration’s highest risk level following fears of salmonella contamination in products distributed across Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina The affected tomatoes, supplied by Williams Farms Repack LLC and sourced from H&C Farms, were shipped to wholesalers and distributors between April 23 and April 28, 2025, and include multiple package sizes ranging from three-count trays to 25-pound boxes.
The FDA’s Class I recall designation signals a “reasonable probability” that consumption of these tomatoes could cause serious health consequences or even death, particularly in children under five, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems While no illnesses have been reported so far, consumers are urged not to eat, sell, or serve the recalled tomatoes. Instead, they should discard the products or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Symptoms of salmonella infection can appear six hours to six days after exposure and may include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Most healthy individuals recover within a week, but severe cases can require medical attention, especially in vulnerable populations.
Check packaging for lot codes R4467 or R4470 and the UPC 033383655048 on three-count trays to identify affected tomatoes The FDA continues to monitor the situation and advises consumers to remain vigilant.
