FSU Shooting Victims Identified: Robert Morales and Tiru Chabba Killed in Campus Attack

Two men killed in Thursday’s Florida State University shooting have been identified as Robert Morales and Tiru Chabba, who were not students at the school, according to family and friends. The suspected gunman, 20-year-old Phoenix Ikner—son of a Leon County sheriff’s deputy—was shot by police and hospitalized after allegedly opening fire near the student union during lunchtime.

The attack left six injured, with two victims expected to be discharged Friday and three others in stable condition. One remains hospitalized in fair condition. Witnesses described chaotic scenes as students fled or barricaded doors, abandoning belongings mid-escape.

Ikner, an FSU student, reportedly used his stepmother’s former service handgun and a shotgun during the rampage. Authorities have not disclosed a motive but confirmed he had participated in sheriff’s office youth programs.

Campus police neutralized the threat within minutes, with Chief Lawrence Revell stating Ikner “did not comply” before officers fired. The university lifted lockdowns by afternoon, but memorials now dot the campus as students return to retrieve abandoned items.

The FBI urges witnesses to submit photos or videos via its tip line as the investigation continues.
