Tornado Strikes Near Jacksboro, TX—But What Happened Next?

A powerful tornado touched down southeast of Jacksboro in Jack County, Texas, on Saturday evening, April, sending residents scrambling for shelter as radar and social media lit up with dramatic footage of the supercell storm. The National Weather Service had issued a tornado watch for much of North Texas and southern Oklahoma, warning of the potential for tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds up to mph.

The tornado moved through Jack and Montague Counties, bringing high winds and heavy rain that caused roof damage and downed trees in the area. Emergency crews began assessing the damage on Sunday, with some neighborhoods still without power as the cleanup got underway. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported in Jack County, but the event has revived memories of the devastating EF-3 tornado that struck Jacksboro just over two years ago, which caused significant destruction to schools and homes.

As the tornado watch expired early Sunday morning, residents were left to evaluate the aftermath and brace for more unsettled weather in the week ahead. The National Weather Service is expected to release a full assessment of the storm’s impact soon.
