The Phoenix Mercury staged a dramatic comeback to defeat the Los Angeles Sparks 85-80 on June, 2025, overcoming an 18-point first-half deficit in a game packed with standout performances and late-game suspense.
Odyssey Sims led the Sparks with a season-high 32 points on 10-of-14 shooting, adding rebounds and keeping Los Angeles in control for much of the night. However, the Mercury’s Satou Sabally answered back with 24 points, rebounds, steals, and two clutch three-pointers, powering Phoenix’s rally in the second half.
The Sparks led by as many as before the Mercury unleashed an 18-4 run in the third quarter, eventually taking their first lead late in the period. The teams traded baskets in the fourth, with Sims briefly putting the Sparks ahead, but Sabally’s defense and timely scoring sealed the win for Phoenix.
The victory moves the Mercury to 5-2 on the season and 1-0 in Commissioner’s Cup play, while the Sparks drop to 2-5. Sabally’s near double-double and Sims’ explosive outing made this matchup one of the most memorable of the early WNBA season.
