Texas Tech softball delivered one of the most dramatic upsets of the 2025 season, eliminating four-time defending champion Oklahoma in a walk-off thriller at the Women’s College World Series. The Red Raiders edged the Sooners 3-2, with Lauren Allred’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning sealing the victory and sending shockwaves through Oklahoma City.
Oklahoma, trailing 2-0 and down to its final strike, looked set for another comeback when Abigale Dayton launched a two-run homer to tie the game in the top of the seventh. But Texas Tech responded immediately: Mihyia Davis singled, advanced to third on Hailey Toney’s double, and then scored the winning run on Allred’s fly ball.

In Game of the WCWS finals, Texas rallied late to defeat Texas Tech 2-1. Longhorns catcher Reese Atwood delivered a clutch two-run single in the sixth inning, overcoming a strong performance from Texas Tech pitcher NiJaree Canady, who had previously kept Texas scoreless Teagan Kavan pitched a complete game for Texas, allowing just one run on three hits, and secured the win in the seventh.
The Red Raiders’ historic run, highlighted by their upset over Oklahoma, has made them one of the tournament’s biggest stories. With the championship on the line, all eyes are now on whether Texas Tech can bounce back and force a decisive game in this high-stakes Lone Star showdown.
