The Detroit Tigers suffered a tough 3-2 walk-off loss to the Chicago White Sox in innings, splitting the four-game series in Chicago. Tim Elko delivered the decisive RBI single in the bottom of the 10th, scoring pinch runner Korey Lee and sealing the win for the White Sox.
Detroit’s offense was largely held in check by Chicago starter Sean Burke, who pitched a career-best seven innings and struck out five. The Tigers finally broke through in the seventh with a solo home run by Wenceel Pérez and an RBI single from Dillon Dingler, tying the game at 2-2 Kerry Carpenter, a key bat for Detroit, went hitless, flying out in his only at-bat as the Tigers struggled to generate consistent offense.
Casey Mize started for the Tigers, allowing two earned runs over 2/3 innings. The Tigers’ bullpen kept the game close until the 10th, when Beau Brieske took the loss after giving up Elko’s game-winning hit.
Jonathan Cannon, a promising White Sox pitcher, did not appear in Thursday’s game as Chicago relied on Sean Burke and a trio of relievers—Cam Booser, Dan Altavilla, and Steven Wilson—to shut down Detroit in the late innings.
The Tigers head home to face the Cubs, while the White Sox continue their homestand against the Royals.
