King of the Hill’s John Redcorn Voice Actor Shot in San Antonio—What Really Happened?

Jonathan Joss, best known as the voice of John Redcorn on the long-running animated series "King of the Hill" and as Chief Ken Hotate on "Parks and Recreation," was fatally shot in San Antonio on Sunday at the age of 59. Police responded to reports of gunfire on the city’s south side and found Joss near the roadway; he was declared dead at the scene despite emergency efforts.

The suspect, identified as 56-year-old Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez, was apprehended and charged with murder. Alvarez has since been released on a $200,000 bond and is under strict house arrest, prohibited from contacting Joss’s family or possessing firearms.

Joss’s husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, stated that the shooting followed a confrontation in which the suspect allegedly shouted violent homophobic slurs before opening fire. Gonzales maintains that the attack was motivated by hate, but San Antonio police initially said there was no evidence to support this claim. However, police later walked back their statement, admitting it was premature to dismiss the possibility of a hate crime and that the investigation remains ongoing.

Joss was a prominent figure in Native American representation on television, with a career spanning nearly three decades. He was last seen publicly at a "King of the Hill" reunion in Austin just days before his death The series is set to return with a revival on Hulu in August.
