Padres vs Giants: A One-Run Thriller—But Where Was Logan Webb?

Padres vs Giants: A One-Run Thriller—But Where Was Logan Webb?

The San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants battled in a tight contest Thursday night, with the Giants edging out a 3-2 victory at Oracle Park. Despite pregame buzz around Giants ace Logan Webb, it was lefty Robbie Ray who took the mound, striking out nine Padres over seven innings and becoming the National League’s first eight-game winner of the season.

The Padres jumped ahead in the third with a two-run homer from Manny Machado, but the Giants immediately answered in the bottom half. Dominic Smith delivered a clutch two-run single, and Willy Adames added a sacrifice fly to give San Francisco the lead they would not relinquish.

Both bullpens held firm through the late innings. Camilo Doval closed out the ninth for the Giants, securing the win as the Padres managed just seven hits on the night. Fernando Tatis Jr. was held hitless, while Luis Arraez and José Iglesias each collected a pair of hits for San Diego.

The Giants, now 35-28, continue to chase the division lead, while the Padres fall to 35-26 in a crowded NL West race. Fans are left wondering when Logan Webb will next take the mound as the Giants’ rotation continues to deliver under pressure.
