LSU fans held their breath as the Tigers faced a fierce challenge from the Little Rock Trojans in the Baton Rouge Regional final, but a late-game surge secured LSU a 10-6 victory and a ticket to the NCAA Super Regional.
The Monday night showdown at Alex Box Stadium saw Little Rock jump ahead 5-1 after three innings, threatening to end LSU’s postseason dreams. But designated hitter Ethan Frey delivered a clutch performance, going 4-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, and four RBI, sparking a comeback that turned the tide for the Tigers.
LSU’s bullpen also stepped up, with right-hander Casan Evans tossing six innings in relief, allowing just one run and striking out a career-high batters Catcher Luis Hernandez added two solo home runs, and first baseman Jared Jones launched his 20th homer of the season in the ninth, sealing the win for LSU.
With the win, LSU advances to face West Virginia in the Super Regional, keeping their College World Series hopes alive. Little Rock’s magical postseason run comes to an end, but not before pushing the Tigers to the brink and earning respect as the underdog story of the Baton Rouge Regional.
