Tomato Recall Alert: FDA Issues Highest Risk Warning—Here’s What You Need to Know

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has elevated a nationwide tomato recall to its highest risk level—Class I—due to potential salmonella contamination The recall, first announced by Williams Farms Repack LLC in May, affects tomatoes distributed to wholesalers and retailers in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

Affected products include various package sizes under the Williams Farms Repack and H&C Farms labels, with lot codes R4467 and R4470 The FDA warns that consuming these tomatoes could result in serious adverse health consequences or even death, especially for young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.

Salmonella symptoms typically appear within six hours to six days after exposure and may include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain Most people recover without treatment, but severe cases may require medical attention.

Consumers are urged not to eat the recalled tomatoes and to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund or discard them immediately No illnesses have been reported so far in connection with this recall.
