Giants’ Newcomer Daniel Johnson Ignites Comeback—But What’s Next for Lee, Hjelle, and Ramos?

The San Francisco Giants delivered a thrilling 6-5 comeback win over the Padres at Oracle Park, sparked by a standout debut from outfielder Daniel Johnson. Johnson, who was called up from Triple-A Sacramento, went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base—his first MLB hit since 2021—helping to snap the Giants’ seven-game skid against San Diego.

Johnson’s impact was immediate. He singled in the fifth, stole second, and scored the Giants’ first run. In the seventh, his second single set up Heliot Ramos’ game-tying double, electrifying the home crowd. Johnson also made a crucial catch in right-center to preserve the lead in the ninth, capping a memorable night for the Vallejo native.

The Giants’ new-look lineup, which also featured recent additions Dominic Smith and Andrew Knizner, showed renewed energy. Jung Hoo Lee contributed a go-ahead sacrifice fly, while Sean Hjelle delivered 2/3 scoreless innings in relief, keeping the Giants within striking distance after starter Kyle Harrison struggled early.

Heliot Ramos continued his strong season with a clutch two-run double, and the bullpen held on despite late drama. With the roster shakeup paying immediate dividends, all eyes are now on how Johnson, Lee, Hjelle, and Ramos will shape the Giants’ momentum as the season continues.
