Texas Tech Softball Coach Faces Texas—But There’s a Deeper Story Behind the Dugout

Texas Tech head coach Gerry Glasco is leading the Red Raiders in a high-stakes Women’s College World Series showdown against Texas, but for Glasco, every game is a reminder of family, loss, and resilience.

Glasco’s coaching journey is deeply intertwined with his daughters. His youngest, Geri Ann Glasco, was a standout player who began her career at Georgia, transferred to Oregon, and later became a volunteer assistant under her father at Louisiana. Tragically, Geri Ann died in a car accident in 2019 at age 24, a loss that continues to shape the Glasco family’s connection to softball.

Today, Gerry coaches alongside his daughter Tara Archibald, Texas Tech’s associate head coach, making the program a true family affair. The memory of Geri Ann is ever-present, with both Gerry and Tara recalling her impact on the sport and the people within it. “For us, it’s as if you can’t step into the softball community without encountering some connection to Geri Ann,” Tara said.

Despite the heartbreak, Glasco has guided Texas Tech to the WCWS finals in his first season, showing a resolve that comes from overcoming personal tragedy. As Texas Tech battles Texas for the NCAA title, the Glasco family’s story adds a powerful layer to the action on the field.
