Tornadoes Slam Lubbock: Power Outages, Floods, and the Warning That Changed Everything

Severe weather struck Lubbock, Texas late Thursday as a powerful supercell thunderstorm produced multiple tornadoes, widespread flooding, and extensive property damage across the region. The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for Lubbock at:39 p.m., labeling the situation “life-threatening” and urging residents to seek immediate shelter. The warning was lifted just after:45 p.m., but not before the storm left a trail of destruction.

At least tornadoes were reported across northwest Texas, with Lubbock and Hockley counties bearing the brunt. Drone footage and eyewitness videos captured flipped houses, destroyed roofs, and flooded streets as the storm system moved through. More than,000 homes lost power, and emergency crews worked through the night to assist stranded residents and clear debris.

Wind gusts reached up to 80 miles per hour, with hail as large as softballs reported in some areas. Flooded roads and downed power lines created hazardous conditions, and at least three people were injured in the aftermath. Texas Tech University issued shelter-in-place orders for students as the storm approached campus.

The National Weather Service warns that more severe thunderstorms are possible in the coming hours, with additional tornadoes, damaging winds, and flash flooding expected. Residents are urged to stay alert and monitor local weather updates as conditions remain volatile.
