Newsboys Break Silence: Michael Tait’s Departure Linked to Shocking Allegations

The Newsboys, a leading name in Christian rock, have issued a public statement following serious allegations of sexual misconduct and drug use against their former lead singer, Michael Tait. The accusations, which surfaced after a two-and-a-half-year investigation, involve claims from three men who allege Tait groomed and assaulted them between 2004 and 2014, with incidents reportedly occurring during tours and at his residence.

Current Newsboys members expressed devastation and outrage, stating, “Last night, our hearts were shattered when we read the news alleging drug abuse and inappropriate sexual actions by our former lead singer, Michael Tait. While Michael has not addressed these allegations, we are devastated even by the implications.” The band emphasized their support for the alleged victims, urging anyone affected to come forward and unequivocally condemning any form of sexual assault.

The band also revealed that Tait, who joined the Newsboys in 2009 and departed unexpectedly in January 2025, had admitted to “leading a double life” before his exit. The group described feeling misled for the past fifteen years and highlighted the impact on their families, stating, “As husbands and fathers of children in total, we are horrified, heartbroken and angry at this report”.

As of now, Michael Tait has not publicly responded to the allegations. The Newsboys have not indicated whether further statements will be made as the situation develops.
