Tornado Watch Leaves Lubbock on Edge—But Did the Storms Hit?

Residents across Lubbock, Texas, spent Thursday night bracing for severe weather as the National Weather Service issued a tornado watch that included the city and much of West Texas. The heightened alert followed a powerful storm system that spawned more than tornadoes across the region, with dramatic images showing flooding, flipped houses, and destroyed roofs in surrounding communities.

While tornadoes caused significant destruction in rural areas of northwest Texas, including Hockley County, the city of Lubbock itself narrowly avoided a direct hit. More than,000 homes in Lubbock and neighboring counties lost power, and at least three people were injured as hail and wind battered the region Emergency officials reported widespread property damage, flooded roads, and continued threats as another round of severe storms loomed Friday evening.

Local stations KCBD and KLBK provided continuous coverage, urging viewers to monitor weather alerts and seek shelter when warnings were issued. The tornado warning for Lubbock was lifted just after:45 p.m., but a severe thunderstorm warning remained in effect, with wind gusts up to 80 mph and hail as large as softballs reported in the area.

Cleanup efforts are underway as residents assess the damage and prepare for more unsettled weather. For the latest updates, viewers are encouraged to check KCBD and KLBK weather broadcasts throughout the weekend.
