Championship Droughts: Why OKC and the Pacers Are Still Chasing NBA Glory

The Oklahoma City Thunder and Indiana Pacers are two franchises with passionate fanbases, but their championship histories reveal a tale of near-misses and long waits.

The Thunder, originally founded as the Seattle SuperSonics, have one NBA championship to their name—secured in 1979 before the team relocated to Oklahoma City in 2008. Since moving, the Thunder have reached the NBA Finals twice, most notably in 2012, but have yet to capture a title in Oklahoma City.

The Indiana Pacers, meanwhile, have never won an NBA championship. Despite multiple deep playoff runs and a Finals appearance in 2000, the Pacers are still seeking their first NBA title. However, the franchise did claim three championships in the ABA before joining the NBA, but those do not count toward NBA records.

For fans in both cities, the wait for a championship continues, with each season bringing renewed hope—and the possibility that history could finally change.
