Alexis Sánchez Breaks Silence: Is a River Plate Return Off the Table?

After Chile’s recent defeat to Argentina in the World Cup qualifiers, Alexis Sánchez addressed swirling rumors about a possible return to River Plate. The 36-year-old forward, currently playing for Udinese, confirmed that he had been contacted by River but emphasized his preference to remain in European football.

Sánchez, who previously played for River Plate during the 2007–08 season and helped secure the 2008 Clausura title, revealed that the Argentine club reached out following the expiration of his Inter Milan contract in 2024. Despite River’s ongoing interest, Sánchez chose to rejoin Udinese, where his European career began.

With a storied career spanning top clubs and a pivotal role in Chile’s national team, Sánchez’s future remains a topic of speculation. However, he made it clear that, for now, a return to River Plate is unlikely as he continues to prioritize opportunities in Europe.
