Dream vs. Sun: The Comeback That Nearly Was—But One Star Stole the Show

The Connecticut Sun secured their first home win of the season, defeating the Atlanta Dream 84-76 in a high-stakes Commissioner’s Cup matchup. Marina Mabrey powered the Sun with a season-high 34 points, adding rebounds and assists to lead the charge Connecticut shot an efficient 50% from the field and held off a late push from Atlanta, who trimmed a double-digit deficit to just one point in the fourth quarter on a clutch three-pointer by Rhyne Howard.

Howard, coming off a 33-point outing in her previous game, once again paced the Dream’s offense and kept the visitors within striking distance. Despite Atlanta’s 16-4 run late in the third, the Sun’s defense tightened in the closing minutes, sealing the victory and snapping the Dream’s four-game winning streak.

The Dream had previously beaten the Sun by 24 points just two weeks earlier, but this time Connecticut’s balanced attack and Mabrey’s scoring proved decisive. Both teams now look ahead to their next matchups as the WNBA season heats up.
