Tigers Blank Cubs—But Where Were Skubal and Báez?

The Detroit Tigers shut out the Chicago Cubs 4-0 on Sunday, June, 2025, in a battle of division leaders at Comerica Park. Jack Flaherty starred for Detroit, striking out nine over six scoreless innings and allowing just two hits, while the Tigers’ offense delivered early with a two-run double from Spencer Torkelson in the first inning.

Riley Greene added a two-RBI single in the fifth, widening the gap as the Tigers improved to 43-24, strengthening their lead atop the AL Central. The Cubs, led by rookie Ben Brown in previous outings, struggled to find offense and managed only three hits all game.

Notably absent from the spotlight were Tarik Skubal and Javier Báez, both key figures for Detroit. Skubal, the Tigers’ ace, did not pitch in this series, while Báez was not featured in the major scoring plays. Detroit’s rotation and lineup depth continue to be a story as the team eyes a postseason run.

The Tigers now look ahead to their next matchup, with fans eager to see when Skubal returns to the mound and if Báez can spark the offense in upcoming games.
