A major recall is underway after nearly million eggs distributed by August Egg Company were linked to a salmonella outbreak that has sickened 79 people and hospitalized 21 across seven states. The recall, announced June, 2025, affects eggs sold between February and May, 2025, with sell-by dates ranging from March to June, 2025.
The recalled eggs, including organic and cage-free varieties, were distributed to retailers and restaurants in Arizona, California, Illinois, Indiana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, Washington, and Wyoming. Major brands involved are Clover, First Street, Nulaid, O Organics, Marketside, Raleys, Simple Truth, Sun Harvest, and Sunnyside.
Consumers are urged to check for plant codes P-6562 or CA5330 and Julian dates '32' to '126' on packaging. Anyone in possession of these eggs should throw them out or return them to the store. Surfaces and utensils that touched the eggs should be washed thoroughly.
Symptoms of salmonella infection include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps, typically appearing hours to days after exposure. While most recover without treatment, young children, seniors, and those with weakened immune systems are at greater risk for severe illness.
No deaths have been reported. The FDA and CDC continue to investigate and advise against eating, selling, or serving the recalled eggs.
