WVU Baseball’s Season Ends in Baton Rouge—What Happened on Skip Bertman Field?

West Virginia’s baseball postseason run came to a halt in Baton Rouge as the Mountaineers fell to LSU in the NCAA Super Regional at Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field. LSU powered past West Virginia with a 16-9 victory in Game, fueled by three home runs—including two grand slams—that set the tone for the series.

Derek Curiel led the Tigers’ offense with a three-run homer and five RBIs, while Steven Milam and Josh Pearson each delivered grand slams to keep the pressure on West Virginia’s pitching staff The Mountaineers, who entered the Super Regional with a 44-15 record, couldn’t contain LSU’s lineup in the sweltering Louisiana heat.

With the win, LSU improved to 47-15 and positioned themselves one victory away from a trip to the College World Series. The Super Regional series, played on the field named for legendary coach Skip Bertman, highlighted the Tigers’ postseason experience and offensive firepower.

West Virginia’s hopes of advancing now rest on a must-win Game, with LSU needing just one more victory to secure their 20th appearance in Omaha.
