Seiya Suzuki launched two home runs as the Chicago Cubs surged to a 6-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers, showcasing a power-packed offense that delivered five homers in total. Suzuki’s blasts—his 15th and 16th of the season—set the tone early, with Michael Busch, Pete Crow-Armstrong, and Matt Shaw also going deep to back another dominant outing from Jameson Taillon.
Taillon improved to 6-3, allowing just one run on three hits over seven innings, marking his fourth consecutive win and fifth straight quality start. The Cubs’ offense needed just seven hits to do the damage, with all but two leaving the park. Crow-Armstrong’s 17th homer kept him just ahead of Suzuki in the team’s ongoing power race, while Busch’s two-run shot in the fifth inning helped build a comfortable lead.
Detroit’s only run came in the fifth, when Zach McKinstry tripled and scored on a groundout. Despite the loss, the Tigers remain near the top of their division, while the Cubs’ win boosts their record to 40-24, keeping them in the thick of the NL Central race as the NL West standings tighten up across the league.
With Suzuki and Crow-Armstrong trading home run leads and Taillon anchoring the rotation, the Cubs continue to look like serious contenders as the season heats up.
