Resident Evil Requiem: Why Is Everyone Talking About Capcom’s Next Chapter?

Capcom closed out Summer Game Fest 2025 with a major reveal: Resident Evil, officially titled Resident Evil Requiem, is coming February 27, 2026, to PlayStation, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The new installment promises a “new era of survival horror,” with a focus on intense realism and immersive gameplay powered by the RE Engine.

Players will step into the shoes of Grace Ashcroft, an FBI agent and daughter of journalist Alyssa Ashcroft, as she returns to the ruins of Raccoon City eight years after her mother’s death. The story promises a dark, oppressive atmosphere, blending exploration, infiltration, and survival in the franchise’s most iconic setting.

Capcom showcased a three-minute trailer featuring Grace navigating the devastated RPD police station and other familiar locations, emphasizing lifelike facial expressions, detailed skin textures, and even realistic sweat droplets. The narrative is set to be visceral and psychological, marking the 30th anniversary of Resident Evil with a return to its roots and a modernized gameplay experience.

A playable demo is expected at Gamescom 2025, with more details to be revealed throughout the year. Fans are already speculating about the mysteries Grace will uncover in Raccoon City—and what horrors Capcom has yet to reveal.
