San Diego FC delivered a statement win over Mexican powerhouse Club América, securing a 3-0 victory in front of over 30,000 fans at Snapdragon Stadium. Despite missing several key players due to national team duty and injuries, San Diego’s depth shined as head coach Mikey Varas fielded a rotated starting eleven.
Forward Milan Iloski was the star of the night, netting two goals—one in each half. His first came in the 37th minute after a quick exchange with Jasper Löffelsend, and he doubled the lead in the 63rd minute, finishing a cross from Oscar Verhoeven. Tomás Ángel capped the scoring with a spectacular free kick in the 77th minute, bending the ball past Club América’s Rodolfo Cota.
Club América struggled to generate offense, recording their first shot in the 74th minute and their first shot on target in the 82nd. San Diego FC’s defensive organization and high-pressing play kept the visitors off balance throughout the match.
The result marks San Diego FC’s first international friendly victory and a major confidence boost as they return to MLS action against Minnesota United FC on June 14.
