Nelson Semedo’s future in doubt as Wolves captain’s contract nears 2025 end

Nélson Semedo, the Portuguese right-back and current captain of Wolverhampton Wanderers, is at the center of transfer speculation as his contract approaches its 2025 expiration. Semedo, 31, has been a key figure for Wolves since joining from Barcelona in 2020, amassing over 165 Premier League appearances and recently taking on the captain’s armband in December 2024.

Semedo’s career highlights include back-to-back Primeira Liga titles with Benfica, a La Liga championship with Barcelona, and a UEFA Nations League victory with Portugal. Known for his pace and defensive reliability, he has also represented Portugal in major tournaments, including the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, UEFA Euro 2020, and Euro 2024, earning 43 caps for his country as of June 2025.

With his contract set to end next year, reports suggest multiple clubs—including top teams in Portugal and France—are monitoring his situation closely. Semedo’s current market value is estimated at €9–10 million, reflecting his experience and leadership on the field.

As the summer transfer window approaches, all eyes are on Semedo’s next move—will he extend his stay at Molineux or seek a new challenge in another European league?
