Cameron Young and Kevin Yu: Who’s Heading to The Open After RBC Canadian Open Drama?

Cameron Young and Kevin Yu both delivered standout performances at the 2025 RBC Canadian Open, but only one walked away with a career milestone—while the other’s PGA TOUR drought continues.

Cameron Young, still seeking his first PGA TOUR victory, finished tied for fourth at 16-under after a dramatic final round. Young narrowly missed a playoff, falling just two shots short as his aggressive approach on the 72nd hole left him struggling to save par. Despite the disappointment, Young’s strong finish secured him a spot at The 153rd Open at Royal Portrush, marking his fourth consecutive appearance at the championship. The 28-year-old New Yorker has built a reputation for near-misses, with seven runner-up finishes in his first 89 TOUR starts, but his recent form suggests a breakthrough could be near.

Kevin Yu, meanwhile, clinched solo third at the RBC Canadian Open, earning his first-ever Open Championship berth. Yu’s performance moved him up to 57th in the FedExCup standings and fulfilled a season-long goal. With just one cut made in five prior major starts, Yu now looks to make a bigger impact at Royal Portrush this July.

Both golfers will join Matt McCarty as the newest qualifiers for The Open, set for July 17-20 in Northern Ireland. As the final major field takes shape, all eyes are on Young’s quest for a first win and Yu’s major championship debut.
