The VJ Edgecombe Factor in the Jaylen Brown Trade

In a blockbuster trade, the Philadelphia 76ers traded Paul George for Jaylen Brown, two first-round draft picks and two second-round picks. The trade, which shook the NBA on Wednesday, left Jaylen Brown, Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe, and Joel Embiid as the core talent for the 2026-27 season.

The Role of VJ Edgecombe

While much of the focus has been on the acquisition of Jaylen Brown, the VJ Edgecombe piece of the trade is intriguing. VJ Edgecombe was initially part of the original trade package that the Boston Celtics wanted from the 76ers in exchange for Jaylen Brown.

Sources reveal that the Celtics were initially asking for a package that included VJ Edgecombe in addition to Paul George and multiple draft picks.

According to NBA insiders, the Celtics pushed for the inclusion of VJ Edgecombe in their trade package. The Celtics’ interest in VJ Edgecombe was a part of their long-term strategy, but the 76ers ultimately held firm on keeping their young talent.
