Padres face Astros in Sunday night showdown at Daikin Park

The San Diego Padres and Houston Astros are set for a dramatic Sunday Night Baseball showdown at Daikin Park, with both teams looking to make a statement after a tightly contested series. The Astros, led by Jose Altuve’s consistent bat, have taken the first two games, but the Padres are eager to snap their skid and defend their impressive early-season record.

On the mound, Houston’s Framber Valdez (1-2, 4.9 ERA) faces San Diego ace Dylan Cease (1-1, 6.6 ERA). Both pitchers have shown flashes of dominance, but Cease’s ability to limit damage—outside of one tough outing—gives the Padres hope for a bounce-back win. Meanwhile, Hayden Wesneski, who started Saturday for Houston, has delivered back-to-back quality starts, adding depth to the Astros’ rotation and keeping the Padres’ offense in check.

Jose Altuve remains a key factor, providing veteran leadership and timely hitting for Houston. The Astros have a slight edge as home favorites, with predictive models giving them a 55% chance to win, but the Padres’ strong lineup against lefties keeps the matchup close.

Prediction: Expect a low-scoring pitchers’ duel, but with the Padres’ offense poised for a rebound, this could be the night they turn the series around. Final score prediction: Padres, Astros.
