The Diplomat season 4 premieres on Netflix with all eight episodes

Netflix’s political thriller The Diplomat returned with its fourth season on Thursday, October 15, 2026. All eight new episodes were released simultaneously on the streaming platform. The series, which premiered in April 2023, maintains a yearly release schedule, following seasons two and three in October 2024 and October 2025, respectively.

Cast and Plot

The season features the return of the main cast, including Keri Russell as U.S. Ambassador Kate Wyler, Rufus Sewell as Vice President Hal Wyler, Allison Janney as President Grace Penn, and Bradley Whitford. The narrative picks up moments after Kate Wyler discovers that President Grace Penn and her husband, Vice President Hal Wyler, have stolen Russia’s superweapon, the Poseidon. This revelation follows Kate’s previous actions to broker a deal between the U.S. and the U.K. by selling Prime Minister Trowbridge a lie.

In the new episodes, the Wyler and Penn couples engage in conspiracies against one another. President Grace Penn and Vice President Hal Wyler plot to steal the weapon from Russia, a move that threatens to start a world war. Conversely, Kate Wyler and Todd Penn unite to prevent them from overturning the balance of power. The season explores these escalating political and marital conflicts.

Accolades and Reception

The series arrives as a fresh Emmy winner. Allison Janney won the show’s first-ever Emmy in September for her performance in Season 3. The series has accumulated 10 Emmy nominations, including two for Best Drama Series. Viewers have reportedly been losing sleep to binge-watch the new episodes. The Diplomat is described as a political thriller that blends high-stakes international politics with personal drama, maintaining a high standard of excellence in its fourth installment.
