NBC's "Newlyweds" starring Téa Leoni and Tim Daly premieres Oct. 23, 2026
Premiere details
NBC will debut the sitcom Newlyweds on October 23, 2026 at 8:30 p.m. ET, with new episodes streaming the following day on Peacock.
Cast and characters
The series stars real‑life married couple Téa Leoni and Tim Daly as Jeanie and James, an opposite‑personality pair who marry after a whirlwind courtship.
Supporting regulars include Emma Meisel as Jeanie’s daughter Poppy, Ignacio Diaz‑Silverio as Jeanie’s adopted son Lolo, and Bill O’Neill as James’s assistant Arvid in the philosophy department at the University of Oslo.
Production background
Leoni and Daly were married in July 2025 after costarring in a previous series where they played each other’s spouses.
“We sort of thought, ‘we’ve done [sitcoms] and loved it’ — and we wanted to spend our days together,” Leoni said at NBC Universal’s Backlot Pass event.
Showrunner change
Co‑creator and original showrunner Gail Lerner was dismissed from the series on the day she announced the October 23 premiere, citing “creative differences.”
Lerner confirmed that the first six episodes were completed under her leadership and that the series has a 13‑episode order. Production of episode 8 is scheduled for today, after which the show will enter a pre‑planned hiatus while NBC and Universal Television seek a new showrunner.
Production team
Executive producers include co‑creator Jamie Lee Curtis, Eric Tannenbaum, Kim Tannenbaum, Scott Schwartz, and Lionsgate Television; Leoni also serves as a producer. The series is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.
