The Dallas Cowboys acquired cornerback Joey Porter Jr. from the Pittsburgh Steelers, the trade announced Thursday.

Pittsburgh will receive a 2027 sixth‑round draft pick and a 2028 second‑round draft pick from Dallas.

Porter, 26, was a second‑round selection out of Penn State in the 2023 NFL Draft and is entering the final year of his four‑year rookie contract.

He had been inactive for the Steelers’ first three games of the 2026 season while dealing with a back issue and a contract stalemate.

The Cowboys made the move after placing safety Jalen Thompson on injured reserve with a hamstring injury and after signing three defensive backs to the practice squad.

Safety P.J. Locke, who is on injured reserve with a torn plantar fascia, was also listed among the Cowboys’ secondary injuries.

The transaction marks the second major trade between the Cowboys and Steelers within two years, the first being the 2025 deal that sent receiver George Pickens to Dallas for draft picks.
