Rodney Hinton Jr. Convicted of Murder in Deputy Larry Henderson’s Death
Jurors in Hamilton County found Rodney Hinton Jr. guilty of murder, reckless homicide and felonious assault in the death of Sheriff’s Deputy Larry Henderson.
The jury did not find Hinton guilty on aggravated murder charges.
The verdict follows a 10‑day trial that examined the events of May 2, 2025, when Hinton drove his car into Deputy Henderson while the deputy was working a traffic detail near the University of Cincinnati.
Prosecutors said Hinton ran over the deputy after viewing body‑camera footage of Cincinnati police shooting his son, Ryan Hinton.
Defense attorney Clyde Bennett II presented a not‑guilty‑by‑reason‑of‑insanity argument, citing Hinton’s long struggle with schizoaffective disorder and other mental illnesses.
Prosecutors acknowledged Hinton’s mental illness but argued he understood his actions.
Hinton will be sentenced on November 16.
Attorney Bennett expressed disappointment after the jury’s decision.
