Logano’s Flip and Herbst’s Crash Mark Turbulent End to Talladega YellaWood 500

Joey Logano’s championship hopes took a massive hit with five laps remaining in the NASCAR Cup Series YellaWood 500 at Talladega Superspeedway on Oct. 25.

On Lap 182, Logano was shoved from behind by Carson Hocevar after Logano attempted to move past lapped car Ross Chastain.

The contact sent Logano’s No. 22 Team Penske Ford Mustang skidding sideways into the outside wall, where the car flipped onto its roof and slid a long distance before stopping on the frontstretch of the 2.66‑mile track.

Safety crews spent several minutes righting the flipped car and helped Logano out of the vehicle; he then walked to the ambulance.

The multi‑car incident also involved Austin Cindric, Brad Keselowski, Daniel Suarez, AJ Allmendinger, Chris Buescher, Chase Briscoe, Josh Berry, Riley Herbst, Erik Jones, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Alex Bowman, Carson Hocevar, Connor Zilisch and Shane van Gisbergen.

Among those involved, Riley Herbst suffered the hardest impact, striking the outside wall and damaging his brakes.

Herbst exited his wrecked car after the crash.

Kyle Larson won the YellaWood 500, securing his first career victory at Talladega in a photo finish.
