Hunter’s Moon Rises Over Boston Sunday, Peaks Early Monday Morning

The Hunter’s Moon will rise over Boston on Sunday, offering early evening viewing.

Peak illumination is expected just after midnight at 12:11 a.m. EDT on Monday, October 26.

Forecasts call for clear skies across New England, with the moon appearing low in the eastern horizon and showing an orange‑reddish glow before climbing higher.

The full moon carries the traditional name “Hunter’s Moon,” marking the transition from September’s Harvest Moon to hunting activities that provided light for game tracking in winter.

This lunar event is the 11th full moon of 2026.

It will be visible from the eastern sky at sunset on October 25.

In the United Kingdom the moon will rise after 4:00 p.m. GMT on October 25 and reach peak illumination at 4:11 a.m. GMT on October 26.

An orange hue may be seen at moonrise due to atmospheric scattering, a phenomenon described as the “Moon Effect.”

Observers are advised to seek unobstructed viewing areas for the best experience.

Noah Petro of NASA noted, “These names were assigned to the moon because the moon has a meaning.”

If weather interferes, the next full moon, called the Beaver Supermoon, is scheduled for November 24.
