Villa Vie Odyssey Suspends Cambodian Voyage Amid Fuel Cost Surge
The residential cruise ship Odyssey, operated by Florida‑based Villa Vie Residences, announced a suspension of its voyage while docked in Cambodia.
The announcement was delivered to residents in an internal message from CEO Kathy Villalba at approximately 7:00 AM ship time on 27 October 2026.
The vessel, a 33‑year‑old ship with a capacity of more than 600 cabins, had a little over 200 residents aboard at the time of the pause.
The company cited “extraordinary increases in fuel costs,” noting that monthly fuel expenses per cabin had risen from roughly $1,800 to an estimated $6,000–$8,000 in parts of Asia.
Villa Vie Residences said it had attempted to curb costs by slowing the itinerary and extending port stays, but those measures did not offset the fuel price surge.
Residents were ordered to vacate the ship by 2:00 PM on 27 October, giving them about seven hours to pack and disembark.
Shuttle services were arranged to transport passengers to lodging in Cambodia through 6:00 PM the following day.
The ship had docked at Sihanoukville Autonomous Port on 23 October for a scheduled five‑day visit and was slated to continue to Vietnam before remaining in Cambodia.
Villa Vie Residences said its immediate priority was to support residents, crew members and employees while it pursued financial restructuring.
