49ers Acquire Defensive Tackle DeForest Buckner from Colts for 2027 Fourth‑Round Pick

San Francisco – The San Francisco 49ers completed a trade with the Indianapolis Colts on Tuesday, acquiring defensive tackle DeForest Buckner in exchange for a 2027 fourth‑round draft selection.

Buckner, a four‑time Pro Bowl defensive lineman and two‑time All‑Pro, is entering his 11th NFL season and is playing on an expiring contract.

The veteran began his career with the 49ers, spent the majority of his tenure with Indianapolis, and recorded four sacks in seven games for the Colts this season.

During his 11‑year career, Buckner has appeared in 158 games, started 153, compiled 683 combined tackles, 196 quarterback hits and 101 tackles for loss.

Following the trade, wide receiver Deebo Samuel posted an Instagram story acknowledging Buckner’s return, noting they shared a season together in 2019 before the previous trade to Indianapolis.

George Kittle also shared a social‑media message celebrating the reunion, referencing a past Pro Bowl appearance with Buckner and fullback Kyle Juszczyk.

The transaction adds an interior pass‑rusher to a 49ers defense that had identified that need, while the Colts receive a future fourth‑round pick as compensation.
