Inter Milan beats Venezia 2-0 to tie Lazio at top of Serie A

Inter Milan defeated Venezia 2-0 in a Serie A match played on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at the Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo. The victory allowed the Nerazzurri to draw level with Lazio at the top of the Serie A standings. The match was part of the ninth matchday of the 2026/2027 season and kicked off at 18:30 CET, with Luca Pairetto serving as the referee.

Inter Milan, managed by Cristian Chivu, employed a 3-5-2 formation featuring goalkeeper Ivan Provedel and defenders Carlos Augusto, Alessandro Bastoni, and Yann Bisseck. In midfield, Piotr Zieliński, Aleksandar Stanković, Petar Sučić, and Amine Diouf supported forwards Marcus Thuram and Ange-Yoan Bonny. Venezia, coached by Davide Nicola, also utilized a 3-5-2 system with Filip Stanković in goal and Akor Adams leading the line.

The result extends Inter's recent form, following a 2-1 comeback victory against Fiorentina on Sunday, October 25, where Marcus Thuram and Piotr Zieliński scored in stoppage time. That win had moved Inter into contention for the league lead, which Gennaro Gattuso’s Lazio had secured with a 6-2 win at Sassuolo. Inter’s next fixture is scheduled to be the derby against Milan on Saturday.

Venezia entered the match as the bottom team in Serie A with three points. The club had previously beaten Napoli in Davide Nicola’s first game in charge but lost 1-0 at Genoa on Sunday. The match featured a notable family connection, as Venezia goalkeeper Filip Stanković, who came through the Inter academy, faced his younger brother Aleksandar Stanković, who is part of the Inter squad. Their father, Dejan Stanković, previously won the Treble with the club.

Injuries affected Inter’s squad, with Lautaro Martínez and Luis Henrique ruled out until after the international break due to hamstring and adductor issues, respectively. Benjamin Pavard was also listed as unavailable due to an adductor problem.
