Paul LePage Wins Maine’s 2nd Congressional District, Flipping Seat for Republicans

Former Republican Governor Paul LePage declared victory in the race for Maine’s 2nd Congressional District, saying he had secured the seat over Democratic candidate and State Auditor Matt Dunlap.

After Dunlap conceded, LePage was confirmed as the winner, flipping the district for Republicans.

The seat had been held by Democrat Jared Golden since 2019, even though President Donald Trump carried the sprawling rural district in three consecutive presidential elections.

Maine Republican Party Chairman Jim Deyermond said LePage’s familiarity with voters and the district’s political makeup helped him overcome a difficult environment for GOP candidates.

LePage’s win gave Republicans one of just three U.S. House pickups in this year’s midterm elections.
