Flash Flood Warning Shakes Las Vegas-What’s Next for the Valley?

Las Vegas is under a flash flood warning as intense thunderstorms sweep through the region, bringing life-threatening conditions to the city and surrounding areas. The National Weather Service has issued urgent alerts for Clark County, including Henderson, Boulder City, and parts of the Las Vegas Valley, as heavy rainfall continues to overwhelm storm drains and low-lying roads

Residents are reporting flooded streets, with water rushing through parking garages and even across the Las Vegas Strip. Some casinos have experienced water pouring in from ceilings, and law enforcement has confirmed flooding over Highway 95 at the California-Nevada border The storms have already made this month the wettest on record for Las Vegas, with over half an inch of rain falling in a short period at McCarran Airport

Authorities warn that flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly, especially in areas with saturated ground. The risk is highest for low-water crossings, creeks, and normally dry washes. The National Weather Service urges everyone: “Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles”

More thunderstorms are possible through the weekend, with the potential for additional flash flooding as the monsoonal pattern persists. Stay alert for further updates and avoid travel in flooded areas.
