You Won’t Believe the Looks at the 2025 Met Gala-But What Was the Real Theme?

The Met Gala 2025 dazzled New York on May 5, transforming the Metropolitan Museum of Art into a celebration of “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” This year’s theme spotlighted Black dandyism, exploring the artistry and history of Black tailoring from the 18th century to today, inspired by Monica L. Miller’s influential work on Black diasporic identity

Gayle King turned heads in a vibrant fuchsia gown by Chuks Collins, featuring a tuxedo-inspired corset and tartan overskirt-a bold interpretation of the “high style” and “Sunday bests” spirit that defined the night. Meanwhile, Jeremy Pope paid tribute to the theme in vintage Maison Margiela, donning a semi-couture bodice from the brand’s 1997 collection, a nod to meticulous craftsmanship and the enduring influence of Black tailoring

Maison Margiela’s presence was felt on the carpet and at exclusive after-parties, where stars continued to reinterpret the night’s motif with inventive, tailored silhouettes and standout accessories Lauryn Hill also made a rare and celebrated appearance, further elevating the event’s cultural resonance.

As the exhibition opens to the public on May 10, the Met Gala’s 2025 edition cements its reputation as fashion’s most influential night-one where art, identity, and style converge in unforgettable ways
