Despite a challenging early season, both teams have shown remarkable resilience. In the preseason, New Mexico and San Diego State were not favored to perform well, with New Mexico being picked last and San Diego State next-to-last in the Mountain West Conference. Despite this, both teams have exceeded expectations, making this a crucial matchup with much on the line for both.

San Diego State’s success this season has been largely driven by their formidable defense. The Aztecs have managed to maintain a strong run, with key defensive plays often turning the tide in their favor. In contrast, the New Mexico Lobos have relied on a balanced offense and a strong home-field advantage to secure their victories. This meeting of strategic styles adds an intriguing layer to the matchup, as the Aztecs' defensive prowess will clash with the Lobos' offensive capabilities.

The Aztecs' relentless defense has been a cornerstone of their season, often shutting down opposing offenses and providing a solid foundation for their victories. Their ability to adapt and execute under pressure has been pivotal in their journey to the top of the Mountain West. Meanwhile, the Lobos boast a potent offensive strategy, often capitalizing on their home-field advantage to outmaneuver their opponents.

For the Aztecs, this game represents a chance to solidify their position as one of the top teams in the Mountain West and secure a spot in the conference championship game. A win here would not only validate their season but also set the stage for an exciting post-season run. The Lobos, on the other hand, see this as a crucial opportunity to claim their rightful place at the top of the conference and earn a coveted spot in the championship game. The Lobos will need to leverage their home-field advantage to the fullest, as the Aztecs will be a formidable opponent.
