Glenn Greenwald Responds to Leaked Videos—But the Motive Remains Unclear

Journalist Glenn Greenwald confirmed that intimate videos featuring him were leaked online last week, sparking widespread reaction across social media. In a statement posted on X, Greenwald acknowledged his presence in the footage and emphasized that the videos were released “without my knowledge or consent,” describing the leak as a “maliciously political” act.

Greenwald, 58, stated he feels “no embarrassment or regret” about the content, clarifying that the videos depict “consenting adults engaged in intimate actions in their private lives” and that “the only wrongdoing here is the criminal and malicious publication of the videos in an attempt to malign perceived political enemies and advance a political agenda” He reiterated that the incident, while uncomfortable, would not impact his ongoing journalism or advocacy work.

Greenwald, who gained international prominence in 2013 for reporting on the Edward Snowden NSA leaks and won a Pulitzer Prize, has since built a large following on Substack after leaving The Intercept in 2020. He was married to Brazilian politician David Miranda, who died in 2023; together, they adopted two sons.

As the story unfolds, questions remain about who orchestrated the leak and the full extent of its political motivations.
