Curt Cignetti's New Deal: Indiana's Coach Secures an 8-Year, $93 million Contract

The football world was abuzz on December 7, 2025, with the announcement that Indiana University has secured an eight-year, $93 million contract extension for its head football coach, Curt Cignetti. This monumental agreement not only solidifies Cignetti's leadership at Indiana but also underscores the significant investment the university is making in its athletic program.

Cignetti, a seasoned coach with a proven track record, has demonstrated exceptional leadership and strategic prowess. His ability to guide the Hoosiers to an undefeated regular season is a testament to his coaching skills, leading to various bonuses being triggered in his contract.

Cignetti's new deal is worth a staggering $93 million over eight years, with an average annual compensation of approximately $11.6 million. This places him among the highest-paid coaches in college football, ranking as the 19th highest-paid coach in the 2025 compensation survey by USA TODAY.

The contract includes an array of incentives and bonuses, designed to reward Cignetti for achieving specific performance milestones. These incentives come in the form of annual raises, retention bonuses, and an 85 percent guaranteed payout if Indiana terminates him without cause, ensuring Cignetti's financial security and the university's commitment to his tenure.

Cignetti's decision to stay with Indiana, despite potential opportunities in his home state, reflects his deep commitment to the program and the university. This loyalty is mutually beneficial, as Indiana gains a coach with a strong track record and a proven ability to lead the team to success.

The eight-year contract extension, which runs through November 30, 2033, provides a stable and long-term vision for the Hoosiers. This move is strategic, as it ensures continuity and stability in the coaching staff, crucial for maintaining the team's momentum and long-term success.
