Trump cancels livestream of Nidal Hasan execution

President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that the execution of former Army psychiatrist Nidal Hasan by firing squad will proceed on December 3, 2026, but will not be streamed.

In a Truth Social post, Trump wrote, “He will die, as scheduled, by firing squad, but this event will not be streamed,” adding that “many very good and well meaning people would rather not watch him die, through streaming, or through any other visual device.”

The Pentagon had earlier announced that Hasan’s execution would be the first U.S. military execution in more than 60 years and that the event would be livestreamed. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had publicly stated that the execution would be broadcast.

Trump’s decision reverses that plan after criticism from lawmakers, human‑rights groups and the United Nations. He said the immediate families of the 13 victims may attend in person if they choose.

Hasan, a former Army major, was convicted for the 2009 Fort Hood mass shooting that killed 13 unarmed service members and injured 32 others.
