Rashid Shaheed scores first touchdown of season for Seahawks

Wide receiver Rashid Shaheed recorded his first touchdown of the season during the Seattle Seahawks' 30-23 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. Shaheed, who was acquired from the Saints in November and signed a three-year, $51 million contract in March, lined up in the backfield to take a pitch from quarterback Sam Darnold. He raced to the outside for a 28-yard score that extended Seattle's lead to 13-3 midway through the second quarter.

Shaheed accounted for 33 of the Seahawks' 138 rushing yards in the game. Head coach Mike Macdonald noted that the team had the play in their playbook for some time, praising the blocking and Shaheed's execution. "We’ve had that in for a while, so great call by Brian (Fleury)," Macdonald said. "Thought we blocked it great, then he did the rest."

Darnold highlighted Shaheed's versatility, stating, "He wears a lot of hats for us on offense. He obviously does great in special teams as well. So, it’s awesome to be able to see him do his thing." Shaheed had previously scored touchdowns on kickoff and punt returns last season and in the postseason.

The Seahawks' rushing attack was bolstered by Emanuel Wilson, who stepped into a greater role after rookie running back Jadarian Price was lost to an injury. Wilson rushed for 81 yards on 21 carries and scored twice. He also caught three passes for 39 yards, including a 23-yard screen pass.

Shaheed's performance follows a period where the team sought more from him on offense. Through his first three games of the season, he had six catches for 53 yards. The Seahawks' next matchup is scheduled for Thursday, October 15, in Week 6 of the 2026 NFL season.
