Offensive performance
Quarterback Keelon Russell started under center with a receiver in the backfield and Daniel Hill to his immediate right. Early in the second quarter, Russell attempted a fourth‑and‑1 conversion; his feet became entangled with offensive lineman Michael Carroll, the handoff was mishandled and the ball rolled into the Tennessee defense.
The Tide’s offense managed only 201 total yards, with 62 of those yards occurring on the final drive when the outcome was already decided. Third‑down efficiency was 2‑for‑13, and the only Alabama touchdown resulted from an interception by Ivan Taylor that set up the score.
“Just struggled to sustain anything, keeping drives and continuity there,” coach Kalen DeBoer said. “And a penalty or came up short on a couple of fourth downs. And you’re going to have to find a way to get some explosives against a front like that. And we struggled to do that.”
SEC disciplinary action
Following the upset, the SEC announced a $500,000 fine payable to Alabama after Tennessee fans stormed Neyland Stadium during the victory celebration.
