UCLA beats Michigan State 28-10 in Week 8 Big Ten showdown

No. 9 UCLA improved to 7-0 for the first time since 2005 with a 28-10 victory over the Michigan State Spartans on Saturday at the Bruins' home field.

UCLA fell behind 7-0 early, but rallied to score 28 unanswered points across the second and third quarters, preserving its status as the only unbeaten team in the Big Ten.

UCLA quarterback Ty Dieffenbach, a Cal Poly transfer playing in place of injured starter Nico Iamaleava, left the field at the end of the first half after a scare. He returned in the third quarter to throw a 63‑yard touchdown pass to Brian Rowe Jr., extending the lead to 21-7.

Michigan State entered the game with a 2-5 overall record and 0-4 Big Ten record. Starting quarterback Alessio Milivojevic was unavailable, prompting the Spartans to start Kayd Coffman. After Coffman went more than two quarters without a completion, fourth‑team quarterback Leo Hannan took over in the fourth quarter.

The Bruins committed two costly fumbles inside the Michigan State 30‑yard line in the first half and struggled with penalties and dropped passes before asserting control.

The loss dropped Michigan State to 2-6 overall and 0-5 in conference play, while UCLA’s win kept its unbeaten run alive and moved its College Football Playoff hopes forward.
