UCLA Bruins shut out Nevada 27-0 at Rose Bowl

The seventh-ranked UCLA Bruins defeated the Nevada Wolf Pack 27-0 at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena on Saturday, Halloween.

The victory moved UCLA to an 8-0 record, its first undefeated start since 2005.

First‑year coach Bob Chesney said, "To get yourself to 8-0 is a big deal and to shut a team out at any level is a big deal. There's a lot of work that still needs to go into this thing and we got to get better."

Ty Dieffenbach threw for one touchdown and rushed for another.

The defense forced three interceptions in the first quarter and recorded a fourth interception in the final seconds by defensive back Ty Lee.

Cornerback Scooter Jackson intercepted Nevada quarterback Luke Duncan on the first play, setting up a 26‑yard field goal by Mateen Bhaghani for a 3-0 lead.

Running back Anthony Woods picked off Duncan on Nevada's second drive after the ball was tipped at the UCLA 16-yard line.

Defensive back Derrick Barksdale returned an interception for a 26‑yard touchdown, extending the lead to 10-0.

Luke Duncan finished 1 for 8 for 36 yards.

UCLA entered the game favored by 22 ½ points, and the shutout was the first at the Rose Bowl since a 16-0 win over Oregon on Nov. 24, 2007.

The Bruins' next opponent is Minnesota.
