Metropolitan Police Confirm Receipt of 2019 Letter Alleging Abuse by Meghan Markle's Father

London's Metropolitan Police confirmed that in January 2019 it received a letter containing a number of claims about alleged offending outside the United Kingdom involving Thomas Markle Sr., the father of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.

The letter was sent to the Met's Protection Command to raise concerns regarding the security of the Duchess of Sussex and was reviewed before being passed to the Sussexes' office for their awareness.

The force stated that the details of the allegations were not shared with other law enforcement agencies and that it did not investigate the claims.

The Metropolitan Police said it is now reviewing the handling of the matter and is considering whether to refer itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

Thomas Markle Sr., 82, denies the allegations and has not been charged.

Meghan Markle said she was "deeply distressed" by reports that her father is under investigation in the Philippines over the allegations.

The letter was written by Roslyn Loveless, Markle Sr.'s late first wife.
