Brewers Capture First World Series Title, Defeat Rays 4-1 in Game 5
The Milwaukee Brewers won their first World Series championship by defeating the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 in Game 5 at Tropicana Field on Wednesday night.
Young ace Jacob Misiorowski delivered a shutout performance, pitching 5 2/3 scoreless innings before exiting with a right calf cramp.
Rookie Cooper Pratt contributed two hits, two RBIs and set a Series rookie record with six consecutive hits before a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning.
World Series MVP catcher William Contreras added an RBI double, finishing the Series with an 8‑for‑21 (.381) line and a .373/.448/.588 slash across 13 postseason games.
Jackson Chourio established a five‑game Series record with 11 hits, while second baseman Brice Turang recorded the final out by throwing out Richie Palacios.
The victory gave the Brewers a 4‑1 series win, ending the 2026 MLB season and completing a postseason run of 11‑2, with their only losses coming against teams that had previously beaten them.
The championship marks the first World Series title in the franchise’s 57‑year history; the city of Milwaukee previously celebrated a title when the Braves won in 1957.
The Rays entered Game 5 attempting to become the first team to rally from a 3‑0 deficit in a World Series, a feat that has never been achieved.
